Couple Drove 10 Hrs To Pick Up Adopted Son-Birth Mom Says She’s Keeping Him

In the summer of 2016, Audra and her husband got the phone call they’d been waiting for: They had been chosen by a birth mom, and they were going to be adopting a newborn baby boy.

After three weeks of prepping the house, setting up the nursery, telling their loved ones, and making all of the necessary adjustments for their soon-to-be son, it was time to finally bring him home.

On the day of the baby’s due date, the elated couple packed up the car and made the 10-hour drive to the hospital. Audra had video-chatted with the birth mom the week prior and put together a basketful of gifts to bring her.

The long car ride was emotional and exciting.

“Reminiscing over the years of it being ‘just us’ and dreaming about how all that is about to change,” Audra wrote on YouTube.

The couple already loved the baby boy before they’d even met him. At around 4:30 p.m., Audra received the latest update. The baby was born. She got to see the first photo of him. Everything was going just as planned!

But when they were just 20 minutes away from the hospital — after a 10-hour ride – Audra got another call. Only this one stopped her heart.
