Here's How To Get Your Damaged Money Replaced

Do you have damaged money...Bills that have been damaged by fire, water or termites, or even the dog ate your bills?  There is an office at the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing that will replace your damaged, burned or shredded bills!  That's right, send your damaged bill in, get back a check.

Every year the Treasury Department handles approximately 30,000 claims and redeems mutilated currency valued at over $30 million. Your money is important & whether your money has been damaged by fire, water, buried, burned, ripped, torn or damaged in any way, The B.E.P. redeems mutilated currency as a free public service.  In fact, the government employs 12 full time examiners who piece together your damaged bills.  Lawful holders of mutilated currency may be able to redeem their money at face value.

Visit the U.S. Department of Treasury's website to find out how to redeem your mutilated currency.  Watch the CBS Sunday Morning video below to see how it all works.
