This Week's Weird News 4/24/20

A potential Bigfoot print found in North Carolina, an awesome contest featuring the creepiest items found in museums around the world, and a former French intelligence official who recently spoke out about UFOs were among the strange and unusual stories to pop up on our radar this past week.

When it comes to the UFO phenomenon, the thoughts of those who have served in high-ranking government positions are particularly enlightening as they may provide some insight into what the 'powers that be' think about the enigma. To that end, this past week saw the former head of France's foreign intelligence service share his thoughts on the subject in a fascinating interview in which he mused about how UFOs were probably not created by governments here on Earth and why the secrecy surrounding the subject may not necessarily be needed since humanity would likely adapt quickly to the idea that aliens are real.

With much of the world on lockdown due to the coronavirus, online communities have become more vibrant than ever as exemplified by a pair of very cool competitions that came about this past week. First, a museum in England challenged their curator colleagues on social media to present the creepiest item in their respective collections and the result was a breathtaking array of truly weird specimens. Meanwhile, an archaeology group launched a contest wherein people were tasked with building replicas of iconic ancient monuments using household items.

While we've seen that the recent lack of human activity in cities and towns has led to animals emerging from the wilderness, events from this past week suggest that the same situation may apply to mysterious cryptids as well. In North Carolina, a hiker stumbled upon a rather remarkable Bigfoot print while exploring a state forest. And, over in England, a stunned motorist pulled their car to the side of the road and started taking pictures when she spotted what she suspected could have been a puma lurking in a tree.
