Taylor Swift, John Legend & More Back Kamala Harris VP Announcement

Stars from different walks of life, including Taylor Swift, John Legend, and LeBron James, came together on Tuesday (August 11) to celebrate former Vice President Joe Biden's decision to select Democratic primary opponent Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) as his vice presidential nominee in the 2020 presidential election.

To celebrate Harris as the first Black woman and first South Asian women on a major political party's presidential ticket, celebrities took to Twitter to sound off on the big announcement, which arrived months after Biden committed to picking a female to join him on the ticket. "I've decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Donald Trump and Mike Pence and then to lead this nation starting in January 2021," Biden wrote in an e-mail to supporters. "I need someone who understands the pain that so many people in our nation are suffering. Whether they’ve lost their job, their business, a loved one to this virus. This president says he 'doesn’t want to be distracted by it.' He doesn’t understand that taking care of the people of this nation -- all the people -- isn’t a distraction -- it’s the job. Kamala understands that."

In response to the announce, Harris took to Twitter, writing, ".@JoeBiden can unify the American people because he's spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he'll build an America that lives up to our ideals. I'm honored to join him as our party's nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief."

Next up, Biden and Harris will appear in a virtual fundraiser to deliver remarks on Wednesday evening in Delaware. Afterward, they'll speak at the Democratic National Convention, which is going virtual since the COVID-19 pandemic prompted party officials to cancel in-person affairs in Milwaukee.
