A fire started by a barbecue grill completely destroyed two homes in the La Presa neighborhood on Saturday, November 27, reports FOX5.

Police first reported the fire on the 1600 block of San Bernardino Ave to San Miguel Fire & Rescue on Saturday at around 12:30 P.M.

According to Battalion Chief fro SMFD, Roddy Blunt, the grill fire started at one house and spread to the home next door.

Blunt told FOX5 firefighters continued to work to extinguish the flames but they managed to contain the fire to the two homes which he called a "total loss."

“What we did not want is a chain reaction going all the way down the street,” Blunt said.

The homeowners of the second house that burned were out of town. The SMFD official added that no injuries were reported in the fire.

Neighbors told FOX5 they have banded together to collect gift cards, clothes, and more resources for those affected.

Loved ones have also shared a GoFundMe page to help raise money for repairs and replacing lost belongings to one of the families.

The Red Cross was also on the scene to assist.

“It’s a pretty devastating situation,” Steve Deal of the Red Cross told FOX5. “They’ve lived here a long time and that’s a lot of memories and they’re gone, so its tough, but they’re holding up really well.”
