Mobile Phone users

Starting May 19, 2018, San Diegans who are in the 619 and 858 area codes will need to dial 1 + area code + phone number for ANY and ALL calls

In order to create more phone numbers, the regions between 619 and 858 will be combined. No, you will NOT have to get a new number, but you WILL have to dial "1" with the area code with every call in the same area. If you don't dial the full 11 digit number, your call will NOT go through.

The 858 and 619 regions include:

  • Chula Vista
  • Coronado
  • El Cajon
  • Imperial Beach
  • La Mesa
  • Lemon Grove
  • National City
  • Santee
  • North San Diego
  • adjacent cities of Del Mar
  • Poway
  • Solana Beach
  • Parts of the City of Encinitas

Any automatic dialing devices, PBXs, speed dialers, call forwarding settings, contacts on your phones, will all need to be reprogrammed in order to accommodate the new system.

Public service numbers like 911, 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711 and 811 will remain the same.
