Police Officer Commits Suicide After Crashing His Car

New Jersey officer, Edward Nortrup, 39, shot himself in the head after his black Nissan SUV crashed into 2 parked cars in Matawan, New Jersey.

Nortrup, who worked in the Detective Bureau and was a 13-year veteran of the Union County Emergency Response Team, lost control of his car on Broad Street in Matawan, New Jersey, and hit 2 parked cars during the middle of the day. First responders showed up to the scene to help free him from the car, but left to get some tools to free him. While the responders stepped away, Nortrup pulled out a gun and shot himself.

Officer Nortrup leaves behind a 15-month-old daughter and wife.

A GoFundMe was set up by the Roselle Park Police Benevolent Association Local 27 to benefit Nortrup's baby daughter.
