The importance of seeking Emergency Medical Care when needed

This is Dr. Adam Schwartz, chief of emergency medicine for Kaiser Permanente San Diego with a message about the importance of seeking medical care when needed.

Emergency care is for a medical or psychiatric condition that requires immediate attention to prevent serious jeopardy to your health. Examples include:

Chest pain or pressure, severe stomach pain that comes on suddenly, a decrease in or loss of consciousness or severe shortness of breath.

Experiencing a sudden numbness, tingling, weakness, or loss of movement in your face, arm, or leg, especially on only one side of your body or a severe headache that comes on suddenly and is accompanied by nausea are all symptoms that should be evaluated in the emergency room setting immediately.

If you think you or your family member has a medical or mental health emergency, do not delay. Call 911 or go to the nearest hospital.
