Trash Work Stoppage Now Piles Onto San Diego Streets

The trash is finally being picked up in the Southbay.

Sanitation workers are back on the job after a nearly week long work stoppage. However, that "sympathy strike" has now moved to Clairemont.

That means some services will be interrupted for homes or apartments that contract with Republic Services throughout the county.

A spokesperson for the Teamsters union tells reporting partner ABC 10 that colleagues on the East Coast are on strike for better pay and working conditions.

Teamsters from Boston traveled to San Diego County to garner support from sanitation crews here. There are rolling sympathy strikes across the county.

In Chula Vista, the backlog of trash that's been piling up for nearly a week is expected to be gone by Monday.
