Major League Baseball officials have confirmed that they are investigating allegations made by the mother of pitcher Mike Clevinger's 10-month old baby girl, Olivia Finestead. Finstead alleges that Clevinger threw an iPad at her while she was pregnant with their daughter and that along with other forms of physical, verbal and emotional abuse, he tried to strangle her. The abusive behavior took place while Clevinger was a member of San Diego Padres.

In addition to her claims of abuse, Finestead told the Atlantic that the 32-year-old Clevinger is a "huge drug addict," who uses mushrooms and acid on a daily basis.

In a post on her Instagram account, Finstead explained her abuse claims saying, “You really deserve hell. I’ve kept quiet for almost a year and you continue to covertly abuse your infant, withhold ALL of her belongings, we have none of our stuff, still not even her birth certificate or her car seat attachment. He’s made sure to do everything he can to keep control.”

Clevinger was a member of the Padres organization from August of 2020 through the end of the 2022 season. In December of 2022 he signed a $12 million deal with the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox said In a statement that that they were not aware of the allegations made against Clevinger when they signed him.

The Athletic reports that a source confirmed that there is an open investigation on Clevinger and that the White Sox were not aware of it until after they had signed him.
