Carlsbad Woman Wins Child Support For 52-Yr-Old Daughter!
Toni Anderson of Carlsbad has taken her ex to court for child support--50 years after he left her with their 3-year-old daughter. Tony says that rather than pay his court-ordered child support back in the 1970s, her ex moved all the way to Canada. As a result, Tony was forced to support her daughter while working as an interior designer in LA. Ironically, her daughter now runs that firm.
Fast forward to 2019, Toni is now retired & money is tight. Then, she told ABC 10 News, it dawned on her, "I realized in the middle of the night one night last year, 'Hey, there's no statute of limitations on child support.'" She did the research, crunched the numbers and realized that with accrued interest of 10 percent a year, what would have been a total payment of some $30,000 back in the 70s is now more than $170,000!
Toni then notified her ex-husband, who's now living in Oregon, and told him that she wanted the child support he owed als those years ago. A resolution to the legal action has been reached...In a private hearing in Vista Court this week, a settlement of $150,000 was reached. Good for her!
Now Tony has a message to other women & other single parents in California: You can still collect...there's no statute of limitations on child support. Watch her tell her story to ABC 10 News below...
