Driving Ahead - 5th Annual San Diego Salvation Army Golf Tournament

The Salvation Army is “Driving Ahead to Prevent Hunger” at its fifth annual Salvation Army East County Golf Tournament, benefitting their East County Food Bank.

The golf tournament will be held at the Sycuan Golf Resort on Friday, June 15, and will fund The Salvation El Cajon Corps’ East County Food Bank, which provides hundreds in the El Cajon community with food assistance.

The poverty rate for San Diego is 13.9%, while poverty rates for El Cajon are significantly higher at 24.2%. In a typical month, The Salvation Army El Cajon Corps, provides 950+ families with food assistance, 300+ families with government commodities, and 1400+ lunches to senior citizens. Over 40,000 people are served by The Salvation Army El Cajon Corps each year.

Cost for the tournament is $125 for an individual or $400 for a foursome. The cost includes green fees, a cart, gift bag, lunch and a banquet dinner. There will also be complimentary driving range balls and competitions, including a putting contest, closest to the pin and longest drive.

Check-in begins at 11 a.m. and tee-off will be at 1 p.m. Dinner and an awards ceremony will follow the tournament, beginning at 6 p.m.

“This Tournament gives us the chance to be able to continue to fight hunger in our community,” says Captain Sean Kelsey, Corps Officer in El Cajon, “There are so many people who are in need and we want to be on the forefront of fighting hunger here in El Cajon.”

For those not able to attend the tournament, there are other opportunities to participate and help The Salvation Army in El Cajon. You can sponsor a hole for $100 or sponsor a table of up to 8 guests for $200. Guests can also choose to only attend dinner for $25. A raffle and silent auction will occur during the meal.
