Jackalope at Rancho Coastal Humane Society

This gentle pup has had a difficult start at life but he's ready to find his forever home. Meet Jackalope, a 10 month old, 15 pound, male, Labrador Retriever / Terrier mix.

Jackalope was a stray puppy. He had been abandoned and living on the streets in San Jose Del Cabo for a few months. He was rescued by Baja Safe Humane Society. They put him in a foster home for 1-1/2 months. Then he was transferred to RCHS through the FOCAS (Friends of County Animal Shelters) program.

In the foster home they had three “kids” ranging in age from 10 to 24. In foster care you get to see how at pet might act in its new home. Jackalope was so relieved to be in a safe place. He didn’t have to search for food. He was shy at first. When he realized he was safe he just wanted to be quiet and be loved.

The $145 adoption fee for Jackalope includes medical exam, vaccinations, neuter, and microchip. For more information call 760-753-6413, visit Rancho Coastal Humane Society at 389 Requeza Street in Encinitas, or log on to SDpets.org.Kennels and Cattery open 11 AM to 5 PM every day except Tuesday.
