Charlie Puth Spills On Brief Selena Gomez Romance: 'It Really Messed Me Up'

If you ever wondered whether or not Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez had a thing going on during the time they released "We Don't Talk Anymore," we can ease your minds because it sounds like they did, as per the former's new cover story with Billboard, which was released on Thursday (February 1)

In the issue, the 26-year-old revealed that he did indeed have a romance with Gomez, but it was a short one that had some negative impacts on him. "It's about a particular moment in my life when someone very close to me wanted the attention of somebody else," Puth said of his duet with Gomez.

"When I found that out and we ended it, I might have done some shady things too, and she might have asked me, ‘How long has this been going on?'" Puth continued. "I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can come across as real is if there’s something else going on behind the scenes. And that’s what was happening. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up."

Puth explained that the situation was a complex one that he felt like he understood even before going into things with Gomez. "I'm trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn't like I was the only person on her mind. And I think I knew that going in — what I was getting myself into," he explained.
