A staple of soul food in California is making its way to San Diego.
According to Eater San Diego, Roscoe's House of Chicken 'N Waffles is officially bringing a location to the city.
Rumors of a San Diego expansion first started in 2016 and were confirmed but the project was stalled in 2017.
The soul food chain has finally resumed construction on the 4,000-square-foot restaurant, according to Eater.
The new restaurant is located in Barrio Logan at 1678 National Avenue.
Roscoe's founder Herb Hudson launched the food chain in 1975 in Los Angeles. They currently serve their iconic chicken and waffles at seven locations across Southern California.
Their menu features Southern classics like smothered chicken and biscuits, grits, fried chicken livers, and mac and cheese.
According to their website, Roscoe's became a cultural touchstone thanks to Hudson's many friends in Motown and television.
The original location in Hollywood is still frequented by celebrities. In 2011 President Barack Obama made an unscheduled visit to Roscoe's.
Adolfo Moreno, who handled the original sale of the property to Hudson, told Eater that the restaurant is working towards a January 2022 opening.
