Amazon is gearing up to build a second massive facility in the San Diego area.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Seattle retail company is preparing to move into a 702,535-square-foot building which is currently under construction on a 40-acre site on Otay Mesa Road.
Amazon already has one facility in Otay Mesa, which is one of the largest buildings in Southern California. The 3.4 million-square-foot facility opened over the summer.
The Union-Tribune reports that the company is also building a 344,000-square-foot warehouse in Tijuana, around two miles south of its U.S. facility.
While Amazon hasn't given much information about the construction of the new building on Otay Mesa Road, they did say it will bring hundreds of full and part-time jobs.
Otay Mesa and Tijuana aren't the only places Amazon wants to build in the San Diego area. But other communities haven't been so enthusiastic at the prospect.
The Oceanside City Council overturned approval of a distribution center after it was widely opposed by nearby residents in August.
A distribution center in El Cajon has also faced many delays from the Board of Supervisors and has received many complaints from neighbors worried about noise and traffic.
According to the Union-Tribune, it's easier to get approval in Otay Mesa as projects do not require a vote from lawmakers.
