The holidays can be a bittersweet time for many people. Celebrating and taking part in traditions without loved ones can put a damper on things.
That's why one California cemetery is attempting to bring some holiday cheer back to families who have lost someone.
According to Patch.com, the Elsinore Valley Cemetery District is inviting people to bring holiday decorations and trees to sit at graves.
Gravesides with the most festive displays will win prizes. First place will receive a $100 gift card, a $50 gift card for second place, and a $25 gift card for third place.
There are some decorating rules and limitations at the cemetery. Trees can't be more than 3-feet high and must be secured to the ground with plastic or wood. Only battery-operated lights can be used on trees and they must be secured to branches.
Additionally, only plastic tree ornaments are allowed and decorations not secured to a tree cannot be over 30 inches tall.
Judging of gravesides will take place on Wednesday, December 22, at 11:00 A.M.
