The Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday, March 1, to designate three vacant County properties as excess property to request proposals to develop them into affordable housing.

According to the County of San Diego Communications Office, two of the properties are in the City of San Diego and one is the former Northeast Family Resource Center. The 1.26-acre property has been vacated by the County Health and Human Services Agency and includes a 22,000-square-foot building that will be demolished in late 2022.

After demolition, the properties will then be turned over to selected developers to help expedite the development process for a "financially feasible development."

This project is part of the County's efforts to increase the number of affordable housing units in the region. Other affordable housing efforts include No Place Like Home funding, Permanent Local Housing Allocation, and recent efforts related to Project Based Housing Vouchers and the Innovative Housing Trust Fund.

The most recent Cycle Regional Housing Needs Assessment found that about 68,959 affordable housing united are needed regionally for very low and low-income people and households.
