Here’s What California’s New Universal Meal Program Includes

California becomes the first state in the nation to offer universal free school lunches to students.

That's because of Assesmbly Bill 130, which state lawmakers and Governor Gavin Newsom passed and signed into law back in July.

The law says K-through-12 schools in California must provide free breakfast and lunch to students who request these meals, regardless of their families income.

It also provides $150 million dollars in funding for kitchen upgrades in school cafeterias and nutritional training.
