An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 rocked the San Diego County area on Monday morning and was felt across San Diego County and other areas of Southern California.
The U.S Geological Service says the quake was centered 2.5 miles southeast of Julian and hit at 10:08 a.m. Retail shops in Julian, a popular town for tourists, reported items knocked off shelves and walls with some minor damage.
Numerous aftershocks have been recorded ranging between 2.5-magnitude and 4.0-magnitude followed the initial quake.
There were no early reports of major damage or possible injuries.
The quake also was felt in Coachella where thousands of music festival fans have been gathering this past weekend. Among them, Delana Bennett with iHeartMedia San Diego. LISTEN TO INTERVIEW
Gov. Newsom's office tweeted that he "has been briefed on the earthquake in San Diego County. The state is coordinating with local authorities to assess any damage and if emergency response is needed."
