Trash Pick Up Pressure For San Diego

San Diego's new rules for waste collection take effect Friday, and property owners are scrambling to switch from city trash pick up to private services.

The city will enforce its "exclusive franchise agreement," requiring some commercial and multi-family properties to use one of four designated haulers.

Many of the 21-thousand property owners impacted by the change say they received little notice and are now rushing to secure trash service to avoid disruptions or fines.

The City of San Diego says they will work with property owners over the next few weeks to help make the transition.
