Grossmont Union High School District Honor Band & Orchestra Extravaganza

On February 12th, band and orchestra students from eleven San Diego County high schools will perform at Helix High School in what is sure to be a musical extravaganza.

Often regarded by music students as their penultimate high school artistic achievement, the Grossmont Union High School District’s District Honor Band and Orchestra has returned after a two year hiatus due to Covid-19 concerns.

The event is significant because orchestras, bands and choirs, once a welcome part of the community fabric in these United States, in recent years have been diminished to the point of extinction in some areas. This concert program supports continuing the arts in the community by highlighting the accomplishments of the most advanced student musicians in GUHS.

This year’s student participants were individually selected based on recommendations from each school Director. Criteria included excellence in musical achievement, student availability for rehearsals and performance as well as citizenship. This process resulted in a group of student musicians ready to be challenged with advanced musical selections under the direction of guest conductors from local community colleges.

Students this year are extremely excited and are working hard to present the best music and create the finest memories. The community is encouraged to attend and support these fine musicians.

This year the concert will take place on Saturday, February 12th
