Thousands Gather To Form Heart To Honor Military On USS Midway

Star 94.1 FM's morning team Jesse, Delana, and Shelly worked with the USS Midway Museum to gather 3,000 people to form a giant heart on the ship's deck on Saturday, September 15, 2018. This “Heart With Gratitude” was assembled to signify San Diego’s love and appreciation for those who protect our freedoms at home and abroad including our service men and women and America’s first responders. Participants received an American Flag upon arriving and one lucky attendee won roundtrip airfare for two to anywhere in the U.S. from event sponsor Southwest Airlines.

It was an early morning labor of love for thousands of San Diegans who began arriving at the USS Midway at 6:30am on Saturday, September 15, 2018.  The heart took about 30 minutes to assemble as participants were directed into place by an event producer who stood on a scissor lift 4 stories above the group and communicated with a megaphone.

Photos and video of the completed heart will be released on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.
