Sun Safety

This is Dr. Charles Miller, Assistant Medical Director for Kaiser Permanente San Diego with an important message about sun safety. As summer approaches and we spend more times outdoors, we need to pay attention to our skin.

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. The good news is that most skin cancers can be cured if they’re diagnosed early. To lower your risk of getting skin cancer, you should protect yourself from sun damage - even on cloudy days.

The simplest way to do this is to limit your time in the sun especially during the midday hours. Remember to wear protective clothing, a hat, sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30, lip balm, and sunglasses when you’re outside. Also check your skin regularly for changing moles or bumps.
