Dr Michael Lalich, Area Medical Director and Chief of Staff for Kaiser Permanente San Diego has a message about the importance of keeping a healthy focus throughout the holidays.
Even though we will be experiencing fewer gatherings and smaller dinners, we need to be mindful that we are still very much in a pandemic. To help avoid another surge, we have to keep up our guard, which means finding ways to boost our resiliency thru the holidays.
Along with healthy eating and exercise, practice mindfulness and kindness to stay healthy. Studies have long suggested that exercise triggers the release of feel-good hormones, or endorphins, in the brain.
Mindfulness reduces stress by keeping us focused on the present instead of regretting the past or worrying about the future. Kindness toward others makes them feel happy and can have a snow ball effect inspiring others to do the same.
