Dr. Jenny Papazian, Cardiologist for Kaiser Permanente San Diego has an important message about heart health.
Although huge strides have been made in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, it remains the leading cause of death among Americans.
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to reduce your odds in the first place.
STEP 1: Know your numbers. High cholesterol and high blood pressure increase your risk for heart attack, heart failure and stroke.
And high blood sugar levels not only increase your risk of heart disease but can also lead to kidney problems and eye disease.
STEP 2: Work with your health care team to develop a plan that’s right for you to lower your levels. Often this can be achieved by making simple lifestyle changes and taking medications.
Remember, you can greatly reduce your risk factors by taking prevention to heart.
