This is Dr. Brett Partridge from Kaiser Permanente San Diego with a message about the importance of colorectal cancer screenings.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. However, with appropriate screening it is also one of the most preventable and curable forms of cancer.
That’s why it is critical to get screened. The earlier polyps can be detected and removed, the less likely it is that you will develop cancer. Most men and women should begin screening at age 50.If you have a family history of colon cancer, you may need early screening.
There are multiple options for colon cancer screening including colonoscopy and stool-based tests. Talk to your personal physician about your screening options.
And remember, adopting a healthy lifestyle which includes maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly and avoiding tobacco products helps to prevent all forms of cancer.
