A number of demonstrators gathered outside of San Diego's Central jail demanding the release of protestors arrested earlier Monday on the campus of UC San Diego at the Gaza solidarity encampment.
64 arrests were made after after authorities declared the encampment an unlawful assembly shortly before 6 a.m. and ordered the protestors to leave the area. Campus police, CHP and deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department were involved in the clearing of the encampment. Tents were taken down and cleared.
According to the school, there was one minor injury reported. 40 of the 64 arrested were students, 24 are either unaffiliated or their status unknown according to a statement from the school.
The school also said the arrested students would be place under immediate interim suspension.
Classes at UC San Diego moved to remote teaching Monday and all events on the west campus were cancelled. The UC San Diego Central Campus trolley station was also temporarily closed.
