Privacy advocates are urging the San Diego City Council to cut funding for automated license plate readers.
These readers capture images of your car and the license plate. That information goes into a law enforcement database, where it scans the plates.
The readers are designed to increase security, but critics say law enforcement may have too much overreach with the information.
The San Diego City Council will meet today (Friday) to discuss budget modifications and a final budget vote will be held on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Advancement of New Americans says they don't believe San Diego has the proper guardrails in place to protect communities from ICE, that could access the private information.
