A new 300 million dollar battery storage facility opens Tuesday in the Barrio Logan neighborhood.
It will be a big economic boost to the area, but some locals say they're concerned about the facility.
The concern comes after fires erupted at storage centers in Escondido and Otay Mesa last year.
The new storage plant is close to places like Petco Park and it's main components are the "battery storage containers, which include racks of batteries, control units, fire prevention and fire protection equipment; voltage transformers and inverters; and a small on-site substation" according to Peregrine, the company behind the project.
A spokesperson says they are aware of concerns but use "the most modern, safest battery technology available on the market."
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and other city leaders will be on hand for the grand opening.
