Public Pools throughout San Diego County are open for the summer of 2021 and while some county facilities have not reopened due to renovation there are still dozens of pools available to the public to get some exercise, play, or just cool off. Many of the pools listed here feature swim, lifesaving and lifeguard classes at affordable rates. Some facilities dedicate specific hours to lap swimmers and aquatic sports practice, so it's a good idea to contact in them in advance.

Brooks Street Swim Center is an L-shaped outdoor heated pool that features 7 long lap lanes with an odd distance of 100 feet or 33 and a third yards.We have an additional 4 lanes to our deep end during lap adult lap swim hours that measure about 15 yards in length. This pool was officially renamed the "James A. Stone" municipal swimming pool in December 1997, to honor Jim Stone, who was the City aquatics manager for 35 years. Jim passed away in January 1998. Part of the Poway Community Center, this 50-meter by 25-yard, heated pool boasts shallow spots, deeper areas for more skilled swimmers, along with diving boards for daredevils. There’s also a wading pool for little ones. Family Swim happens on the weekends from 10:30AM until 1PM and everyone is encouraged to bring swim toys, floaties, inner tubes and rafts.

The Plunge San Diego is a historic landmark known to be one of the largest indoor pools in Southern California. Washington Park Swimming Pool was dedicated on June 13, 1964, and is still heavily used by high school water polo and swim teams, a community competitive swim club, and during the summer the Recreation Division's Learn to Swim Program. City Heights Swim Center and Bud Kearns Pool will remain closed for the 2021 summer season while undergoing reconstruction projects. The Tierrasanta Pool is expected to reopen by midsummer once the maintenance on pool filtration system is completed, the City of San Diego said.
