Dear Diary,
I'm having a hard time typing this out (I've already made 4 mistakes) because I got myself some nails. I'll get to that later. First and foremost, I am beaming with pride after seeing Evan KILL it this weekend. She was in a play called Silent Sky, about a group of women astronomers from the 1900's. She played a 50-year-old Scottish woman named Williamina Flemming, who had all the zingers, all the laughs in the show. Aside from the only boy who was in the play. He was really funny, too. And, the lead was incredible. These kids have so much talent. No one, including me, had a sliver of that kind of talent when I was in high school.
Antonio and I went on opening night. I worked the box office. It's the least I can do...and when I say least, I mean least. I need to do so much more Anyway, here are the pics from Thursday night.
That's the lead, Eleni. She's going to make it in the acting world. I can see it and feel it. Evan, too . They both have "it." I know I'm biased but Evan is a natural. I am so so proud!!!
Some older man came up to Ev at the end of her Friday night show, crying! He told her that she moved him to tears and that he is forever changed! What the heck! WOW! Amazing. On Saturday, closing night, all of my friends came to see her. This is her support system made up of dear friends and family. She's so blessed. I am so blessed to have so many good people by our side. Next show is Frozen. She's playing Elsa! That one is in May. Can't wait.
On Friday night, Antonio and I went to the Imperial House to celebrate Erik's friend, Melissa, who is marrying her girlfriend next week. Erik's friend Rea was the singer at the piano bar. What a blast that was . Antonio was flirting (He's a giant flirt, but an innocent one) with this girl. They came to the table and Antonio says "Feel her skin, it's so soft." So, I felt her hand and said "Wow. it sure is." Then, she looks at us in horror and says "Are you guys swingers?" Omg. I died laughing. That poor woman! Here are some pics....random woman with the nice skin not included. This is our friend MK.
On Saturday, we went to TJ to see Antonio's friend Rudy and to go to my friend Eric's (another Eric) Beer Fest. It was at the coolest place called Bierhalle. Great food, fun times.
I know, I know...all these bars, all these drinking opportunities. Just want you to know that I am stronger than ever in my sobriety. I will be 13 years sober on Saturday, March 7th. This day is even bigger than my real birthday! I just watch my friends (some of them) get all buzzed an stupid. I have my superpower, sobriety.
On Sunday, we took a little drive to Rosarito. The whole way down, I was complaining about my hideous nails and super white hands. I have a burn on the top of one hand, which looks horrible. I just felt gross. Look at my skin next to Antonio's and Tony's.
So, Antonio tells me that acrylic nails are 24 bucks in Rosarito. I was all excited. I thought about getting them done next time I'm in Rosarito...next paycheck. That's when Rudy hands Antonio 500 pesos. I guess Rudy owed him the money. Well, I mistook the whole transaction. I took the money and squealed with joy! "Oh my gosh! Really??? i can get my nails done? I can be a girl again? I'm so happy!!" He didn't have the heart to tell me it wasn't for the nails, so he just gave it to me. haha. I didn't know the real story until today! haha.

Oh, while I was getting them done, a man comes barreling in the store yelling "Laura Cain!!! Laura Cain??? Is that really you?" He was a longtime Jeff and Jer listener. He saw Antonio's sweatshirt (It says Laura Cain After Dark on it) and started asking questions. His name is Tom. Retired Army. Lives in Puerto Nuevo. Having the time of his life!
What an awesome weekend. That BIG thing I sensed was coming last week hasn't happened yet. I'll let you know if something BIG goes down. Until then, See you later, Diary. (This Diary entry took me 52 minutes to type because I'm not used to these nails!)
