Mandy Moore is still processing the horrific evacuation scene that unfolded as the Palisades Fire ravaged Los Angeles and destroyed her home last month.
The Because I Said So actress detailed how she found out about the fire and the frightening events that followed in a post shared to Instagram on Wednesday (February 12). Moore did not receive an evacuation notice and revealed that it was her brother-in-law who called to warn her family of the fires on January 7.
"It was 6:45 p.m. and he told me he, his wife, and our niece were evacuating, grabbing my in-laws (his parents) and getting the heck out of Dodge and we should do the same. I calmly walked downstairs and relayed this to my husband and without skipping a beat, we promptly packed up the kids (in their pjs), our dog, and scrambled to find our 3 cats as the power went out."
Moore continued, assuring that she, her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, their kids, August "Gus," 3, Ozzie, 1, and Louise "Lou," 4 months, and their pets all made it safely to friend Hilary Duff's house. There, they sought refuge for a few days, but not before being scarred by the apocalyptic scene they traveled in.
"We raced across town amidst fallen trees on the freeway to the safety of our dear friend’s place, got the kids down, and then I raced to Target to grab a litter box and some water, impulsively refreshing the watch duty app over and over. As we did all night. Over and over. Watching the evacuation zone narrow in on our little 8-block radius. It took until 4 a.m. for it to turn red. All the while, tossing and turning with a stomach-churning anxiety I’ve never experienced before, both boys passed out between us in bed."
Moore included a photo of what once was her Pasadena home turned to ash and rubble by the unrelenting flames that torched the region in January. The This Is Us standout first shared news of her family's evacuation one day after the Pacific Palisades wildfire was sparked, letting fans know they were safe via her Instagram Story.
