Paid Parking At Zoo Moving Forward

Paid parking at the San Diego Zoo is one step closer to reality.

The City Council voted Monday to change the zoo's lease, so it can charge for parking.

It is still unclear how much parking will cost, but the zoo does plan to charge locals less than out of towners.

The city will use money from the parking fees to help with a nearly 260-million dollar budget shortfall. The Council has already voted to implement parking changes at Balboa Park, which has historically offered free parking.

The new fees could go into effect by October 1st.
