George Stepanof is most well-known for being the “God Father of Beach Volleyball” creating the rules of the game, his award-winning athletic endeavors and his long-term dedication to the sport as a tournament director, mostly in San Diego. In July of 2021, the City of San Diego named the Ocean Beach Volleyball Courts after George!
Ed Chan, an avid volleyball player and photographer, was best known for owning Volleyball Magazine and taking photos for over 30 years of not only Olympic level games for beach and indoor volleyball, but also many college and amateur events. Ed, a gentle and loving husband, is remembered as a friend to many.
Mark Antis was one volleyball community member that was constantly supporting the sport and hosted many memorable events including 4th of July tournaments on the bay and he ran this Annual Polar Bear Classic tournament for over 10 year. Mark always had a smile on his face and was ready to support our community in any way he could.
